People who are highly sensitive (HSPs) are usually not automatically in need of psychotherapy as it is not a psychological disorder, but a normal temperamental trait. However, HSPs are more likely to also suffer from mental health issues than people who are less sensitive and there are some common 'challenges' that might need addressing that often go hand in hand with being highly sensitive.
According to my research and my experience as a clinician working, for over a decade, with highly sensitive clients, there are a few common challenges for highly sensitive people:
Feeling quickly overstimulated
Difficulties regulating intense feelings
Issues around self-worth and self-acceptance
Lack of self-care, i.e. leading a lifestyle that does not suit their temperament
I offer individual HSP consultations to address any of these or related issues, and to discuss your individual issues and questions related to your high sensitivity. You may also just want to learn more about high sensitivity, expand your knowledge, or undertake an assessment to find out whether you are highly sensitive or not.
These private consultations will aim to:
Strengthen self-acceptance around being highly sensitive
Identify HSP-related strengths, challenges and resources
Learn emotional regulation skills and to deal better with overstimulation
Improve stress management
Improve the level of your self-care to match your temperament
Learn to be more assertive regarding your boundaries and emotional needs in relation to others
Learn a more self-accepting and self-compassionate way of relating to you yourself
Please feel free to contact meto discuss your individual needs for your HSP consultation.
Please be aware that these HSP consultations are not a substitute for long-term therapy to address serious mental health issues, like depression, anxiety or addiction.
